Evangelism: The Missing Ingredient
The Rev. Robert Blessing has been a long-time friend since he was a member of my congregation in Seattle. He entered the ordained ministry, served as a missionary in Korea, a parish priest back in the U.S. He has always been an enthusiastic evangelist for Christ. He also served as a military chaplain for two tours in Iraq and several other deployments.
The Second World War taught us a critical military truth. You cannot bomb a people into submission. Its corollary is to win a war takes boots on the ground. 🧐
Lewis had two great skills. A great insight and a way with words. Great preaching has this too 😊
The Church exists for nothing else but to draw men into Christ, to make them little Christs. If they are not doing that, all the cathedrals, clergy, missions, sermons, even the Bible itself, are simply a waste of time. God became Man for no other purpose. Perhaps one of the best descriptions of American life that explains so much about our culture from social media to politics!
As a student of history, I always like to underscore when our founder’s separation of powers works as intended. The two actions of federal judges this past week are good and healthy examples of how this was intended. One was the return of the Kennedy Center back to the legislature that created it. The other is the hold on the creation of the DoJ’s fund by the President’s agreement with the IRS. Clearly intended to bypass the Legislative branches oversight of the budget.
Senator Cornyn served Texas in the senate with honor and wisdom. His only mistake was that he was a Republican of a previous era, fiscally conservative, supportive of the military, willing to work across the isle when it was best for our country. Of course the new Trump Republicans had to replace him. Reason has left the building and Paxton exemplifies everything wrong with the new Conservative Party.
What's in a Name
I don’t think that you have to be an Episcopalian to appreciate this article. When the United States was founded, the leaders chose the name The Protestant Episcopal Church. They understood that the name Anglican would never work in a country that had just decided to break with England. Later the name was changed to The Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society.
