At the risk of more goons telling me I know nothing about copyright, I hate that #8 is shared (I stopped looking after that) because these books are shared illegally, without the author's consent. I know, because mine are there.
So that's kind of a big fat “fuck you” to every single author who spent significant chunks of their lives on something that's now shared without any compensation to them.
I know nobody gives a shit about artists being paid anymore, but I have to say something.

True, and I want people to get paid for their work. But I can’t afford to pay a paywall subscription for every single article I want to read. If I go back to the site repeatedly, I will sign up and pay. If I could pay a normal amount per article, I would be happy to do so.

If you type ‘bookmark and URL manager’ into google - raindrop.io is at the top of the organic results-it’s a useful list for sure but your assertion isn’t correct-at least for this one - I’ve not tested the others - this flagged for me because I found it through Google.

Reminds me of a health food supplement ad that tells me that they have answers that doctors don’t want me to know. Because doctors and other health professionals are not as concerned about my health as they are. And they are the good people because they are giving me “secrets” that other people don’t want me to know. You make me feel so “special“ to have this esoteric knowledge that your broadcasting across several social media platforms.

It is absolutely not true that Google hides these websites on its own initiative. The vast majority of them are freely accessible and indexed.
Any limitations or removals happen strictly through legal channels: sites like Sci-Hub or paywall-bypassing tools only face restrictions following formal legal notices for copyright infringement (DMCA), a legal requirement that all search engines are bound by law to follow.

I use a VPN that lets me choose my “location“. I block the OS’s “Location service” & use a different “Default location“ anywhere I want, with “Allow location override“ set. Fools most (NOT all) sites. Hm, I must try using a location used by a spy agency/the White House/others: it might be fun.

sci-hub HASNT BEEN UPDATED SINCE 2021. there is, i think open-slum dot org or just search - slum.org before any dumpster diving for research papers. AND any AI research paper referenced in wired or ars technia is avix (not that but like that). Adobe PDF Reader is free and/or lotsa browser addons available too
