#### Alberta's petrostate issue

Alberta's problem is that it is essentially a petrostate. The government doesn't have to listen to voters because the voters are not paying them. "No representation without taxation," as Andrew Nikiforuk put it. So this corruption is not surprising.

Resource revenues — all of them — should go into a fund (we had one of those... what was it called?)

Does the Canadian military have a baked-in pro-US bias because of longstanding relationships? Is our military leadership ready to take on Canadian sovereignty initiatives and strike a more independent path - carefully of course!

Most Canadians are blissfully unaware of what a terrible reputation the Canadian mining sector has outside Canada. The Vancouver Stock Exchange developed a reputation for spawning thousands of mining pump-and-dump scams. Things are not a whole lot better since it became the TSX Venture Exchange.

We have shown little interest in regulating this corruption. It must be serving someone's interests.

How to explain this? There has always been a segment of the BC Mining Industry that has been extraordinarily regressive and rapacious. This is well known outside Canada, but most Canadians just don't pay attention to crimes committed abroad by Canadian companies (so much for our self-image, never a unitary kind of thing anyway).
