I am an Australian observer of the collapse of America. As an environmental scientist I can see America failing every test of long-term survival. Trumpski's delusions are simply hastening your end.
Of the many factors that could "screw up" this shaky MOU, the one least mentioned is Trump's mental state. If too many people say that he surrendered to the Iranians. That he just plain "lost". Trump is likely to start throwing bombs again or reinstate his blockade. And the world is back to "square one". With heavily depleted reserves of essential supplies.
Alternatively, given Trump's affinity for grift, he decides to charge a fee for ships being allowed to pass through the Strait into the Gulf…
If I am reading it correctly, the script for Armageddon calls for those who lie or act immorally or unethically or fail to obey the law, to suffer a terrible fate. Surely even Republicans, evangelicals and Trumpists must feel some pangs at the prospect of their sins being called up and run before them, as they are swept into the Abyss. Some prickling of conscience.
Nuclear power is only long-term viable if you include "breeder" reactors and "spent" fuel reprocessing, or the "taming" of fusion. Without those we are likely to exhaust the supply of fissionables before we run out of coal. Even with these we will probably need a space program that enables the exploitation of fissionable isotopes from other solar system bodies.
Modern civilisation requires reliable energy. The more sources you have the better, but short of sun and wind all terrestrial sources are finite.
