This point made by Paul is spot on, that this is not so much about AI bubble bursting because there is nothing there--there *are* some interesting applications of it.  
Instead, this moment proves that our "Masters of the Universe" in Silicon Valley gambled wrong, on believing that AI could only be effective with massive compute--with huge sprawling datacenters churning away--while China has been building what we ought to have pursued: smart, smaller, more efficient models and targeted use applica…

AI is nothing new. Remember ELIZA and Joseph Weizenbaum! The current brute force approach to the mimicking of natural human behaviour may turn out to be a massive wrong turn in a story that had been evolving in the interface between computer science and neurology for over 50 years!
