Couldn’t comment because as is often the case, authors hide behind the Only Paid Subscribers Can Comment wall, even for free articles, a behaviour I find rather repugnant.
The article covers the topic of why men masturbate with the aid of pornography. Several books on the topic are openly lambasted for hiding behind moral or religious judgement. The author also argues against pornography as a true addiction, based on somewhat tenuous argument…Jun 5 Interesting piece by Sam Harris on Substack today. Not hidden behind a paywall this time, yet only paid subscribers can comment, a common approach on Substack which I find rather distasteful.
The essay is typical Sam Harris - beautifully written, and generally well argued, although pushing a barrow he has been pushing for years now. He has developed a style which suggests if you disagree with him, you are morally confused or morally corrupt. There are several examples in his piece where he commits logical…May 24 Today’s piece by Robert Reich suggests the argument that hyperpolarisation is the problem rather than trump is bullshit.
With all due respect Mr Reich, I think you are incorrect. Data clearly shows that hyper polarisation predates trump by a good decade or more. The seeds were laid in the neoliberal era, then logarithmically expanded by the growth of social media.
I would argue that trump could only have become president because of hyper polarisation.
