We must fear stupidity more than evil
This paraphrase is often attributed to Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the German pastor and theologian executed by the Nazis in 1945.

In his Letters and Papers from Prison, he wrote an essay on “stupidity” versus “evil.”
His point was that while evil is often easier to identify and resist, stupidity is more dangerous because:
