Adam Grant: Are you a fan of gentle parenting? Dr. Aliza Pressman: I think it’s wonderful that the pendulum swung so far because now it can find the middle. And that’s what the gentle parenting movement accomplished. But it can tip into permissiveness, and the kids most likely to be parented that way are actually the ones most susceptible to its downsides like higher anxiety, more internalizing tendencies. Those are the orchid kids. They need structure more, not less.
