There’s a strange thing I’m seeing on social media. Experiences that were previously understood as mental health problems are being converted into neurodivergence.

In the last few days I’ve seen videos telling me that dissociation, OCD, anxiety and rumination are all signs of autism in adults. I’ve had posts telling me that cognitive flexibility is a ‘trauma-adapted behaviour’, and that when an autistic nervous system is ‘starved’ it looks like OCD.
