# 10 minutes, one video, and the best AI conversation with my kids yet

Observing _another kid_ use AI (via video in the post) gave my kids the opening to talk about AI more deeply with me. Most grateful to friends at [The Rithm Project](https://substack.com/profile/332225319-the-rithm-project) for the inspiration.

Starting with someone else’s experience does a few things at once. For kids who haven’t had much exposure to human-like AI, it makes the dynamic visible in a way that abstract conversations can’t. For older kids, talking about a younger kid activates their protective instincts, and it sidesteps the defensiveness that can creep in when they worry the conversation is really about their own choices.

Nearly every parent I know is trying to figure out where to even start with AI and their kids. I’ve found no airtight rule that covers it, but I am finding ways in. See what you think of this latest way to get conversation going.
