A strange thing happens when you finally get the thing you’ve dreamed about for years… you realise you have to say goodbye to the version that got you there.
We are finally, finally, embarking on a proper renovation. The real thing. And I find myself feeling something I didn’t entirely expect: oddly, quietly sad. Sad to say goodbye to this house in its current form - this imperfect, draughty, orange-pine-clad house that has held our family together, just as it held so many families before us. It has been more than enough. It has been, in all its unpolished glory, exactly what we needed.
