Every behavior policy I've ever read was written by someone who hasn't been in a classroom in at least five years.

Every behavior solution I've ever seen work was designed by the teacher in the room that morning.

I live in a paradox it comes to the political left and right. On one hand, I explicitly teach my students that no one is coming to save them. No one is going to do the work for them. I repeatedly preach the value of doing hard things for the sake of doing hard things. I want them fully capable of relying on themselves to make a dent in this world. I live and teach by the phrase, “pull yourself up by your own bootstraps.”

And yet, on the other hand, I cannot help but love public education— however…

I think many students are deeply under-challenged intellectually.
