Americans today have fewer sex partners than previous generations. The average American has between four and six sex partners in their whole lives. One researcher found that the median woman born in the 1980s in the US had racked up exactly three life sexual partners. For men, the number was six. One analysis of GSS data found an increase in total sexual partners since age 18 — “from 7.17 in the late 1980s (11.42 for men, 3.54 for women) to 11.22 in the 2010s (18.22 for men, 5.55 for women).”
