INTRODUCTION
Hello, and welcome — a quick introduction for anyone who’s just found us.
I’m Alex — founder, editor, curator and chief janitor of KLOF Mag, an independent online music publication. For twenty-two years, we’ve championed intelligent, uncompromising voices in contemporary and experimental music, through reviews, interviews, guest articles, news, playlists and mixtapes. We’re eclectic by design, covering: folk, experimental, ambient, avant-garde, jazz, field recordings, electro-acoustic, and more.
A bit of history: we began in 2004 as Folk Radio UK and rebranded to KLOF Mag in 2024. We’ve been recommended by The Guardian, featured in The Independent and been called “a national treasure” by BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson. Today, we’re a Substack Bestseller, currently in the Top 100 of the Music category, and we’re read by music lovers and music makers. Talking about our Substack, Colin Meloy said:
