The key thing to remember, is that all of these prayers, hands raised in praise, or hands spread in petition, are full-hearted, whole-bodied and God breathed, a reminder of who we’re praying to, a reverent and humble appeal to the Holy and Most High God!

These verses lead off a long proclamation by David of the strength and deliverance and blessing of God.

It is repeated again in Psalm 18, but it is in 2 Samuel that we see the context...that of a man …

I am drawn to this engagement between David and God, his “stronghold and deliverer,” transparency revealed, as David holds nothing back, acknowledging his own limitation and complete dependence on God. He’s coming to God upfront and before anything else.
