## Kids and Parasites!? Should We Be Worried… or Grateful?

My newest children’s book turns fear on its head and helps families understand what’s really happening in the body.

Today I’m feeling a lot of gratitude — and a lot of excitement — because my newest children’s book, _Pete the Parasite’s Purpose_, is officially out in the world. In the video I just shared, I introduce everyone to my new little friend, Pete. He’s a bit sad at first because, as he says, “everyone wants to kill me,” even though he’s just trying to do his job and help people. This is the heart of the story: reframing parasites not as villains, but as nature’s cleanup crew, part of a larger, intelligent symbiotic system the body uses to rebalance itself.

The book was created to help children — and honestly, adults too — understand that parasites aren’t something to fear. Nature works through cooperation and adaptation, not warfare, and Pete is a perfect example of that. In the video, I explain that “we couldn’t live without” the organisms that show up to clean up our internal environment, and that trying to wipe them out without understanding their purpose completely misses the bigger picture of how the body actually heals. The story is a gentle, humorous way to open this conversation early in life.

Believe it or not… I actually sing a lit bit in this video. There is a song I wrote for Pete — _“Pete the parasite cleans up the mess… in your tummy garden.”_ Pete even sings along. It’s silly, it’s fun, and it makes these concepts approachable for kids. Inside the book, I’ve also included lessons for parents, comprehension questions for children, and the full song so families can read, learn, and sing together while opening up new conversations about health, nature, and the purpose behind what shows up in the body.

If you want to teach your kids (or grandkids, or students) a whole new way of looking at the body — one rooted in curiosity instead of fear — _Pete the Parasite’s Purpose_ is a beautiful place to start. It’s lighthearted, it’s educational, and it helps lay the foundation for a Terrain-based understanding of health from the earliest ages. Check out the video, share it with your friends, and you’ll find the book link included. Pete and I both hope it brings a smile to your day.

BTW…It makes a great gift🎁😁
